Instrumental Music - Band
These courses are designed for students who wish to continue developing the instrumental music skills learned in earlier grades. While the primary focus of this course is performance, there will be instruction in theory basics, composition and arranging basics, as well as various opportunities for small ensemble and solo performance. Students who choose this course should also be registered in the corresponding repertoire course.

Vocal Music
The vocal courses are designed for both experienced and novice singers. With vocal performance as the main focus, students will learn a variety of techniques from classical and jazz techniques to musical theatre and solo performance. In addition, instruction in theory and composition and arranging basics will be given. Students who choose this course should also be registered in the corresponding repertoire course.

Piano Accompaniment
The piano or ensemble accompaniment course complements the vocal courses, and is designed for those students who are working at RCM level 8 and higher. Please be advised that enrolment in this course is limited. Students who choose this course should also be registered in the corresponding repertoire credit.

Keyboard Music
Keyboard music is classified as a non-performance course and is not eligible to be included in the repertoire credit. This course focuses mostly on the individual acquisition of music skills through piano/keyboard training. As in other music classes, students will receive instruction in performance, theory, composition basics and arranging basics. This course is open to students who may or may not have had previous experience on piano/keyboard.

Repertoire Music
Repertoire Music is an experientially based survey course that assumes that the students have already achieved an appropriate level of technique and skill through the Core Music course. The musical ensemble (the band or choir) constitutes the “class” and the primary teaching vehicle for the Repertoire course. Through their participation in these groups, students will rehearse, listen to, analyze, create, and present repertoire from a variety of genres.
The ultimate goal for the ensemble is performance – the formal presentation of prepared repertoire to an audience. Students will organize, promote, perform in, and analyze the formal presentation of music at concerts and festivals organized by the Music Department.
