Bur Oak Music's OBA Festival Results
The Bur Oak Music program participated in the Ontario Band Association's Provincial Band Festival again this year and came away with some great results.
On Tuesday, the Grade 10 Symphonic Band under the direction of Mr. Yeung received a Silver Plus and a Rising Star award for their performance of Rain and Chant and Jubilo. Later that evening, the Senior Wind Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Stokes received a Gold Award and an Overall Outstanding Performance Award for their performance of October and Variations on a Korean Folk Song. On Wednesday, the Grade 9 Concert Band, again under the direction of Mr. Stokes, received a Gold Award and another Overall Outstanding Performance Award for their performance of There Will Come Soft Rains and Crystal Moon.
At the Awards Ceremony at the conclusion of the festival, Mr. Yeung pulled the door prize which will provide a bursary for one Grade 9 Bur Oak Student to attend IMC in the summer. Mr. Stokes also received the OBA Conducting Excellence Award for excellence in the craft of conducting and wind band teaching.
All in all, a wonderful festival experience. We are so proud of the 256 band repertoire students who participated in the festival and represented Bur Oak Music so well at OBA. Congratulations!!!
